PhotoKiller is a photo-culling app that runs on your Mac. Developer: Denis Chepil (den@chepil.ru).
1. What data is processed
The app works primarily locally on your computer. Photos, ratings, and cull sessions stay on your device (or on disks/volumes you explicitly grant access to). PhotoKiller has no accounts: we do not create user logins or a cloud profile.
- Image files (JPG/HEIC/RAW and related sidecars) you open for culling
- Local app settings, folder-access bookmarks, and on-disk preview cache
- Support chat messages you send (see section 3)
- Contact details you send when you reach support (email, Telegram, Max, or in-app chat)
- Diagnostic and product analytics data via Firebase (see section 4)
2. What we do not do
- We do not upload your photo shoots to our servers for storage or processing
- We do not sell or share your photos with third parties for advertising
- We do not use advertising networks or cross-app tracking (no IDFA / App Tracking Transparency)
3. Support chat
You can contact the developer from the Mac app (Support → Chat with Developer) or from this
website’s support page. Messages are sent to our support API at
photokiller.chepil.ru so we can reply.
- Chat text you type, a technical session identifier (client ID), and basic app/platform metadata needed to route the conversation
- Optional push notifications (Apple Push Notification service on Mac; Web Push in the browser) only after you send a message and grant permission — used solely to notify you that the developer replied
- On the website, conversation continuity may use cookies / local storage; you can clear them in your browser
Support messages are used only to help you and improve the product. They are not used for advertising.
4. Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics
PhotoKiller for macOS uses Google Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand stability and product usage.
- Crashlytics — crash reports and related diagnostic data (for example device/OS version and stack traces) so we can fix bugs
- Analytics — aggregated product events such as paywall views, purchase/restore outcomes, and user-facing error alerts
These services may process identifiers such as a Firebase installation / device identifier, crash logs, and event parameters. Data is processed by Google as described in the Firebase Privacy and Security documentation. We use this information for app functionality and analytics only — not for advertising and not for tracking you across other companies’ apps or websites.
5. File and network access
macOS asks for access to folders and disks you choose (including memory cards, network volumes, and USB/MTP cameras). This is required to show previews, copy keepers, and move rejected files to Trash. Network access is also used for network volumes you mount yourself (for example a NAS), for support chat and optional push notifications, and for Firebase Analytics / Crashlytics as described above.
6. App Store purchases
Payment and purchase records are handled by Apple. The developer does not receive your card details or full Apple ID payment information.
7. Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect children’s data.
8. Changes
We may update this policy when the app changes. The current version is always available at https://photokiller.chepil.ru/en/privacy/.
